AT-AT Pet Video

This as a cute little video of an AT-AT as a dog-like pet…makes me want to get out the robotic AT-AT I built and tinker with its behavioral programming… darn my arms for being broken!

Vintage Slingerlands

\’72 Slingerlands V2

If you’re not into vintage drums, this probably won’t interest you. Last year I swapped my vintage ’69 Ludwig Club Date kit with a beautiful ’72 Slingerland kit in a White Tiger Pearl (WTP) wrap. I just love the old school 3-ply sound of the classic jazz and bop drummers! The only downside of the swap was it just had a 16″ floor tom and I prefer the smaller jazz size shells like a 14″ floor tom.

Hangliding Accident

Airlift
Airlift

I was seriously injured in a hanglider accident on May 9th. I was airlifted to a trauma center and was hospitalized for almost two weeks. I am now out of the hospital and will be recovering at home for the next couple of months. I’m told it will be a long road (2-3 years to full recovery) as I have shattered both my arms with nerve damage. They are pinned together with dozens of titanium plates and screws. It will takes 3-12 months to learn if the left arm will be usable. I can move my right hand a little bit, though, and can get a little done on the computer with Dragon Dictate voice software.

New Website & CMS

I’m migrating shan @ moonbase to a new content management system with a new look and feel. The template is a work in progress. The online gallery and downloads will be the last items to move, as they will require some gnarly scripting and SQL to import (no way will I try to move it manually!), as will the story archives older than 2008.

Playing with Content Management Systems

Harvard

I took two courses for the Spring 10 semester at Harvard. One was an easy elective on Content Management Systems.

Here are a few of my projects:

First Flight of Spring Soaring Season 2010

Video of Today’s Flight In My Sailplane: 2 1/2 minute video of a flight today in my sailplane… assembled from short clips I shot from my iPhone in flight…. neat view of space mountain about 35 seconds into the video… apologies for the dorky audio… I had no idea how much I talk to myself when flying, lol.

Steampunk Analog Instruments

I discovered these freaky little blip boxes by Designer Yoshi Aki. What’s most interesting about this is the Steampunk design aesthetic.

My personal favorite is the “Cube”, a 4 Channel 16 Step Drum Sequencer.

The main box has 4 input section. each square has 4 different trigger pattern on a side.
Each cube makes a unique sound.

Putting the cubes on the main box makes drum pattern and rotating the cube makes a new drum sequence.
