I ran into an interesting problem with my Mac Pro. I am using it as the platform for my dissertation research in 3D and am triple booting into OSX, Windows, and Linux. Because my research is graphics intesnsive, I wanted to upgrade my graphics card. I was also looking for an excuse to get a better card for gaming in Windows than the official Apple/ATI 570/580 cards Apple currently offers for the current generation of Mac Pros.

My doctoral journey officially starts today. I read something amusing as part of this quarter’s research class.

For those folks with morbid curiosity who asked to see it, here’s the hardware from my right arm…. Now I should finally be able to make a 100% recovery. It’s been a long journey since May 9th, 2010. Six months or so of conditioning starting next month, and by the three year anniversary I should be 100%.
You just can’t have too many glowing lights on your car… Tonight I added an illuminated Chevy logo to my Camaro…

After getting the LEDs installed in an emblem it was easy. Just added a fuse tap to the fusebox under the hood for a circuit that is hot when the ignition is on, then added some quick connects to the ground and power lead, with an on off switch in line on the ground. The hardest part was finding a heat resistant tube to run the wires through from the emblem (in front of the radiator) to the fusebox.
What can I say, I liked Knight Rider when I was a kid (not David Hasselhoff, ugh, the car). Kitt rocked! This is the latest of the mods I have installed in my Camaro…

It wasn’t too hard. Just had to pop out the blastic trim in the “mailslot” on the hood, then cut a small hole to run the wiring through. I used a fusetap on the fusebox under the hood to an always on circuit, with quick connects, and an inline fuse (just cause I am paranoid). I’ve got a remote on my keychain to control it, and also programmed one of the 3 garage door buttons inside the car to act as another on/off switch.
